Peruvian Cuisine

Appetizer: Cancha Serrana & Leche de Tigre
(Included with visit)
Presentation: ⭐⭐
Flavor: 7.5/10
Comments: The toasted corn was crunchy and lovely. I have tried better, but I did enjoy it very much. The leche de tigre was not for me. It tasted good, sort of like ceviche, but I did not think it paired well as an appetizer or with the cancha serrana. I understand these are Peruvian customs, but I just did not enjoy the combination.
Menu item: Coconut lemonade
Presentation: ⭐⭐⭐
Flavor: 6/10
Comments: This lemonade was too sweet for me. The bits of coconut on top were nice, but I wish they had been toasted. The drink itself did not taste much like coconut, just lime, but I understand it was made with coconut milk.

Menu item: Playa Chucuito
(Grilled Mahi Mahi, Quinoa, Yellow Pepper, and Mushrooms)
Price: $22
Presentation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Flavor: 7/10
Comments: Why was the fish so dry? It really is unacceptable in my eyes. For a restaurant known for its seafood, I was disappointed. It should not be that hard to cook fish without drying it out, especially when that is what the restaurant is known for. The taste was also quite bland. The quinoa itself was good, and I especially loved the combination with the mushrooms. It had a lot of flavor and definitely carried most of the points for the dish. However, there was a slight hint of spiciness that I personally did not prefer. Overall, the idea was there, but the delivery seemed lazy.
We arrived on a Thursday around 5 p.m., and the restaurant was not busy. We decided to sit outside since I felt the inside was a little too cold for me. Our server was quick and efficient, and we had our food within 10 minutes of ordering. In a sense, this was great, but at the same time, it made me wonder if some of the food had been prepared ahead of time rather than cooked on the spot. I understand that restaurants sometimes need to do this, but ideally, it should not affect the quality, which unfortunately seemed to be the case with the very overcooked fish. I was also a little disappointed that the quinoa was slightly spicy. Even though it was bearable, I had asked the server prior to ordering, and she had told me it would be fine. On this particular day, I was under doctor’s instructions not to eat any spice, so I just wish they had been a little more upfront with me about it. All in all, the food was okay but slightly below my expectations. That being said, I would still return to give Dr. Limon a second chance, as quite a few items on their menu definitely caught my eye.
