Menu Item: Volcano Roll
Description: California roll with cream cheese. Topped with baked seafood, masago, scallions, and sesame seeds.
Price: $15.00
Presentation: ⭐⭐⭐
Flavor: 6.5/10
Comments: The concept behind this dish was promising, especially as an option for anyone who prefers to avoid raw fish. Unfortunately, the flavors did not come together as cohesively as I had hoped. Although the fish itself was good, the roll was overly sweet, possibly because of the sauce used inside. The rice seemed to carry most of that sweetness, which significantly affected the overall balance of the dish. I also would have appreciated knowing which type of fish was used on top of the rolls. The cream cheese inside was fairly bland, but the cucumber and imitation crab tasted fresh and added a pleasant contrast. All in all, I would not order this menu item again.
I love this restaurant because the food always tastes fresh. I only wish I were more adventurous when it comes to raw fish, because their sushi always looks fantastic. As usual, I ordered online, and my order was ready right on time. Although I did not enjoy this particular menu item, I will definitely be returning to Sumo.
